The Fressnapf Group is Europe’s leading specialist pet food and accessories retailer. Since the company was established in 1990, the “Fressnapf idea” has been rapidly gaining ground across.
Germany and beyond its borders. Today, the Fressnapf Group,consisting of Fressnapf and Maxi Zoo, can be found in 11 European countries and expansion to further countries is already planned. With 1,675 stores – 752 of them outside of Germany (as of 31/12/2020) – the Krefeld-based company achieved turnover of 2,6 bn Euro in 2020.
Our store concepts.
The Fressnapf / Maxi Zoo store is our classic store concept and a proven recipe for success. Here, customers can find approx. 8,000 food and non-food products at value-for-money prices. Trained personnel provide expert advice and can help with questions about keeping and caring for animals. With more than 12,000 items over a sales area of around 1,200 square metres, the XXL concept is the flagship store for the Fressnapf / Maxi Zoo brand. A comprehensive range of pets in beautifully designed theme worlds is combined with attractive visual merchandising with infotainment elements to create a shopping experience. There is a veterinary surgery and dog parlour in many XXL stores, providing additional service for customers. MEGAZOO stores offer visitors large-scale animal habitats, a comprehensive range of over 20,000 products, high-quality visual merchandising and a high level of animal expertise on an average of 2,500 square metres. Exotic animals give the concept a distinctively zoo-like feeling, which particularly appeals to families with children.
Constantly searching.
Fressnapf is always interested in finding new, attractive locations as part of the company‘s international expansion. Our unique, successful store concept and our desire to create an optimum shopping atmosphere makes us a strong partner and a popular neighbour amongst tenants. Furthermore we are taking care not to disturb the environment by causing a high volume of traffic, noise, pollution, odours or waste. The downtown area is usually not relevant for us because we carry the range of products of a specialist discounter and our customers make stockpile purchases for two to three weeks.
We need space.
Our assortment comprises over 8,000 pet food and accessories articles. It offers a huge variety of products for dogs, cats, rodents, birds, fish and reptiles as well as specialties like low-fat pet food, light diet, pet food for individual mixing and special food for allergic animals. These products are sold by trained employees, who are highly familiar with pets and can give competent advice. The
majority of our customers visits us to buy ahead for their pets.
We are expanding.
Since 1997 the company is expanding successfully with the specialist retailer concept. International sales account for 37 % of overall turnover – trending upward. In order to extend our lead in the European pet market we will continue to pursue an aggressive expansion strategy.
We are constantly developing new ideas, concepts and services so that we don’t just have “Makes pets happy”, as our banners proclaim, but are on the road to becoming a one-stop pet provider. Alongside our “classic” Fressnapf and Maxi Zoo stores, our “XXL” and “MEGAZOO” large store concepts are already very successful in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, France and Italy. We will launch these concepts in other countries in the future to cover all size categories from 300 m2 to 1,200 m2. True to the maxim “fortune favours the brave”, Fressnapf has decided to enter the Polish pet market in 2012. Poland was the eleventh market for Fressnapf, a company from the pet sector that trades internationally in pet food and accessories.
